New building includes energy-savings and environmentally-friendly features
WICHITA, Kansas, April 22, 2010 – Pickles and relish aren’t the only green features in Linkhäus, the new gourmet bratwurst restaurant opening near 37th and Rock this May. Not only will the restaurant tout a menu like no other, it has a unique building to match. The Linkhäus environmental features set this building apart from others.
“As we considered our building options, we evaluated the impact we’d leave on the environment and looked for ways to reduce our footprint,” said Michael Ramsey, project manager for Brats & Tots, Inc. “Our store contains some of the latest technologies available to minimize the use of energy and natural resources.”
The store’s environmentally-friendly features include:
• Radiant heat flooring
• SIP (Structural Insulated Panels)
• Solar tubes
• Low-E glazing
• Revolving door
• Passive heating and cooling features such as roof overhangs and landscaping
Linkhäus additionally plans to use recycled paper products such as plates, napkins and cups.
The search and selection for an architecture and design firm lead the Linkhäus ownership group to U+W Design.
“One reason for the selection of U+W Design is that our lead designer on the project is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited for her work in environmental design,” said Ramsey.
“The challenge was amazing,” said Rebekah Wagoner, LEED AP accredited professional, of U+W Design, architecture firm. “Our client was looking not only for the latest technologies, but also for some really smart and resourceful ways to save energy. We thought through details big and small – from solar energy strategies to types of landscaping.”
Linkhäus is set to open in early May, 2010.
