Registration begins on September 17 at First Gear (111 N Mosley) or online at www.rosstoberfest.org <http://www.rosstoberfest.org/> . (extra fees apply). Advance entry fees are $25 ($30 race day) for the 5K and $15 ($20 race day) for the 1-mile event.  Entry forms can be found at many College Hill merchants and at Rosstoberfest sponsors.
The race has been organized by Clark Ensz (708-0808) and will be timed electronically with computerized chips. Race Day check-in begins at 8 am at the corner of Douglas and Circle Drive. Warm-up begins at 9:15 am.  A post-race celebration includes prizes, music, and an awards ceremony.  In celebration of Octoberfest, all participants will receive a free bratwurst.  Those who are age 21 or over are also eligible to receive a free beer.
The fundraising event is part of the “Run For Our Sons <http://www.rosstoberfest.org/##> ” program to benefit Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), a non-profit organization dedicated to expedite viable treatments and a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).  Rosstoberfest Run is named for College Hill resident Ross McFarland who was born in 1995 with DMD. His mother, Beverly McFarland and father, Robert McFarland, MD, are both avid marathon runners who developed the run to honor Ross and to raise funds for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy.

The first annual Rosstoberfest Run (a 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk for Kids) attracted 541 participants on October 4, 2008. Race Director Clark Ensz of  <http://www.rosstoberfest.org/rossrun_facts.html##> Run Wichita (runwichita.org) designed the USTF distance and officially timed course. “We’ve been very pleased with the number of enthusiastic runners and walkers we’ve attracted the last two years,” said Beverly McFarland.  “The event just keeps growing.”

This year’s event sponsors include: Hullings Orthodontics, Poet Ethanol, Great Plains Imaging, Watermark Books, Citizens Bank of Kansas, West Wichita Family Physicians, P.A., First Gear, Bicycle Exchange, Wichita Clinic, Entercom, Health Matters Magazine, and Klenda, Mitchell, Austerman and Zuercher.
