People with the early to mid-stages of Alzheimer’s are welcome to attend a new interactive program at the Wichita Art Museum called “The Presence Program: The Gift of Art”, aimed at encouraging art appreciation, personal expression, and emotional well-being.
On Thursday, November 18 at 2pm, people with the condition and their care-givers, will enjoy a stimulating conversation about art with Museum staff and docents. In order to prepare for the program, Museum educators trained with a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with people in the early stages of the illness. The program is based on a similar program developed by the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, which has been shown to help diminish depression and increase quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers alike. It is the first program of its kind in Kansas. “The Presence Program” will occur at WAM the third Thursday of each month at 2 pm, with the kick-off session on November 18.
The program is free to the public, but space is limited, so call 316-268-4907 for more information, or to make a reservation.
